Dear Robinson,
Downing Street,
Downing
July, 1918.
Your letter of the 30th of May as regards
a possible supply of silver to India from Hong Kong. I
have again brought the matter forward here with the
result that Sir George Fiddes has discussed it with kr
Bewins, and the opinion they came to was that in view of
the arrangerents made by Lord Reading in the United
States of America there is no urgency as regards an
alternative source of supply.
You will see from an official letter which is
coming to you that the Straits Settlements will, I
regret to say, have no more silver to sell to India in
connection with their recoinage operations, over and
above the four million dollars already sold. We are
agreeing to the price arranged between the Governor of
the Straits Settlements and the Government of India for
W.ROBINSON, ESQ.
